Maryland Health Insurance Company Health Insurance Products

The Maryland Health Insurance Plan offers three different health insurance products, all under the name of MHIP. The first available product is the basic MHIP, which is available to residents of Maryland who are not able to secure health insurance from any other source, or have lost their group health insurance coverage. There are different coverages available within the MHIP, including:

  • Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) option
  • Two Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans with different deductibles
  • High deductible plan

The second option offered through the Maryland Health Insurance Plan is the MHIP Federal, which is a federally administered plan for individuals who cannot obtain health insurance through another source and have been without health insurance coverage for at least six months. The MHIP Federal offers a high-deductible plan or two different PPO plans based on individual eligibility requirements.

The final option is the MHIP+, which offers similar options to the MHIP Federal but with lower deductibles. This plan is only available to members who are not eligible for MHIP Federal and have a limited income. The MHIP+ has discounted and lower-cost premiums available to members.
