Foresters History

Forester has a colorful history, dating back to its founding in Ontario in 1881 as the Right Worthy High Court of the Independent Order of Foresters. In 1890, the company received a New York license to conduct business in the United States as a fraternal benefit organization. In 1913, the company dropped half of its name, shortening it to the Independent Order of Foresters.

In the last 85 years, seven other fraternal societies have merged with Foresters. These include the Modern Brotherhood of America, the Royal Clan Order of Scottish Clans, and the Catholic Mutual Benefit Organization. Foresters acquired the Canadian Forester Life Insurance Society in 1992.

Forester’s Common Bond principles are threefold. First, the organization focuses on helping its members and their families. Second, Foresters encourages a feeling of community and cooperation among its members. Lastly, it strives to share its success and prosperity to communities in need. More than just an insurance company, Foresters is a mutual aid society where policyholders are members of one large family.

Foresters currently has members in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

  1. Doris King says:

“They will take money that they are not entitled to, they will take money out for cancelled policy’s a month after it is cancelled. They took money out of my account for 5 times the amount of my policy, took out money for a cancelled policy and then you have to fight tooth and nail to TRY and get your money back.

Then when all of this is going on your agent is not any help, then the agent quits even talking to you and won’t finish helping you to get your money back. Then when they do give you your money back it is a little here and a little later, then they try and find reasons to keep some of the money. They still owe me money that they took out for a cancelled policy, they covered the bounce fee but they have not given me my money back yet!

I WILL NOT QUIT UNTIL I GET MY MONEY BACK even if I have to contact the insurance fraud department of each state and country that the operate in. I have sent them everything that they need, copies of all bank statements, copies of all conversations stating about the “”mistake”” of taking money out for a cancelled policy, and now I have started sending emails to the insurance fraud in the state of Alabama because the are not giving my money back nor or the calling or contacting me in any way. The keep saying that they have the wrong phone number when I call and I give them my phone number every time I talk with them or send emails..

    Stay away from Foresters insurance!!”

  3. Marie Hedgpeth says:

“Foresters is the worst company that I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. They will not talk to you on the phone. All correspondence occurs via USPS. The agent did not tell us that the company was located in Canada.

I also asked if there was a 2-year contingency on this policy and was told no. When a claim was filed I was instructed that the policy was invalid therefore there is no claim and I would only be entitled to my premiums back but I do not know it has been 6 months since the claim was filed and I am still waiting.”
