Foresters History

Forester has a colorful history, dating back to its founding in Ontario in 1881 as the Right Worthy High Court of the Independent Order of Foresters. In 1890, the company received a New York license to conduct business in the United States as a fraternal benefit organization. In 1913, the company dropped half of its name, shortening it to the Independent Order of Foresters.

In the last 85 years, seven other fraternal societies have merged with Foresters. These include the Modern Brotherhood of America, the Royal Clan Order of Scottish Clans, and the Catholic Mutual Benefit Organization. Foresters acquired the Canadian Forester Life Insurance Society in 1992.

Forester’s Common Bond principles are threefold. First, the organization focuses on helping its members and their families. Second, Foresters encourages a feeling of community and cooperation among its members. Lastly, it strives to share its success and prosperity to communities in need. More than just an insurance company, Foresters is a mutual aid society where policyholders are members of one large family.

Foresters currently has members in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
