Polish Roman Catholic Union of America History

As one of the earlier Polish Roman Catholic fraternal benefit societies in the U.S., PRCUA led the way for social programs that assisted its members financially. They did so by collecting donations for the needy, orphaned, and widowed members. On top of that, they raised funds to build a hospital and orphanage.

As the PRCUA grew in years, so did its business. In 1886, an insurance system was put in place and in correlation membership improved. The organization was able to donate larger and larger sums of money to the community in order to build churches and schools.

The PRCUA also developed its own weekly publication in order to better serve the community and its members. The name of the publication changed several times but in 1897, the name Narod Polski stuck and it has been that same name since.

With its memberships, the Polish American community became a huge center of what they were trying to accomplish. Members were encouraged to blend their Polish culture, religious faith, and American ideals in order to be dedicated.

Polish Roman Catholic Union of America Ratings

According to A.M. Best , PRCUA received a C++ rating for financial strength and a credit rating of B. Unfortunately, both of these ratings are negative with A.M. Best withdrawing these rating per the company’s request.

With the A.M. Best’s rating system ratings fall anywhere between A++ (considered Superior), to F (considered liquidation). Any rating between A++ and B+ is considered “secure.” Those that are below a B+ are “not secure.”

The reason for these ratings is to reflect a downward trend of net operating losses, modest risk-adjusted capital position, a spread compression from the very low interest rates and their capital and surplus has received a high exposure to equities.
