They are very slow. I had a claim in December of 2012. I am still waiting for them to process it. It is April of 2013. This is not a policy you can count on.

“I bought all their policies. My son wrecked his motorcycle while competing, bruising ribs and many other things, they kept him at the hospital for only one day. National Teacher’s Associates paid me $5850. My total bills for his hospital stay totaled $3492. I’d say that’s GREAT insurance!!!

Also, my buddy who also has their plans, not two months after he got them, his wife had a stroke and the company paid out for that as well.

I’d say it’s refreshing to finally find a company that DOES what they say they will!!

    THANK YOU!”

    “This company is terrible.

I had outpatient surgery on April 10th could work or walk for three weeks without crutches. Sent my claim in May 1st and they denied me, clainming I was not totally disabled. I appealed, they received my appeal on June 26th.

It is now August 5th and I still have no word or status on claim. I have been with this company three years, I have paid out hundreds of dollars ti this company. I feel as though they have not been forthcoming, and I would not recommend them.”

“I feel confident knowing should an unexpected illness or injury occur, financially I do not have to worry.

Everyone at my school has the coverage and several of us have had to use the plans. NTA has paid every time. I also appreciate the fact they return every year to review my benefits with me and check to see if I have any claims.”

“Of all the insurance companies I have dealt with over the past few years NTA is the worst!! They are the slowest in handling claims of any insurance company–unbelievably slow!

Claims are denied even though the appropriate documentation is right there attached to the claim form! I have paid on this policy since 1994 and have never used it until now and now, when I need it, I find that it is worthless! No wonder their earnings are UP!

They take in premiums but do no pay out on legitimate claims!”

They are liars and only want your premium. My accident was in July now it’s September almost October and now they say they need more proof that I was confined. Don’t get scammed. It’s better to keep your money what is an accident to you it may not be to NTA LIFE.

  7. Claudette says:

“I have had my disabilities, cancer, and accident policies for about ten years. In 2009, I filed two disability claims and was paid about 1600.00 for both policies. Since 2009, I haven’t attempted or needed to file.

Fast forward to June/July 2015, in which I have attempted to file two accidental, one disability, one doctor’s consultant, and one cancer preventive claim worth $50.00. Can you guess which one was paid immediately? You got it….$50.00!!!

Unfortunately, the others have been denied, appealed, and denied again. This in spite of the fact that I have repeatedly sent the original documents, additional documentation (5 times, which was in the original documentation), and documentation of the treatment from my physician, pharmacist, and emergency rooms. Each denial was based on technicalities, semantics, and just plain hard balling by the agent(s).

As a long time customer with valid and legitimate claims, I find these denials unacceptable and undeserving as I relied on the knowledge of the insurance agent in selling the products, and the direction of the customer service personnel when I called in for clarification of the additional information requested.

In addition to being denied, the time of the denial decisions was very lengthy from the original claim dates of mid-July, with one just being denied as of this posting.

With that being said, and paying a monthly premium of $170~ in a month, I will probably cancel these policies as I see no benefit in having them.”

“Horrible company to do business with.

I just sent in requested documentation for a disability claim and less than 10 days later they are asking for “”updated”” versions of the same stuff. Customer service reps have repeatedly given me misinformation and conflicting stories.

A medical “”facility”” where I was currently being treated has a dedicated team of professionals to file insurance/paperwork for its’ patients. I gave my claim forms to one of these insurance professionals at the facility and told him that this company was really difficult to deal with. Perhaps he thought it was an exaggeration.

A few days later he came back to me and basically said, “”You are right. This company is unlike any I’ve ever dealt with before.”” To hear this from a person whose job entails working only with insurance companies, solidified for me the fact that the unethical business practices used by this company are recognized even by an industry insider.

And I recently saw, on their website that they are now insuring police and fire fighters. Doesn’t seem reputable at all to take advantage of teachers, police, firefighters – those in the public service arena. I’m going to ask the insurance professional at the medical facility which insurers he deals with that ARE reputable.

I strongly advise anyone reading this to find another insurer.”

“I got hurt at work and filed a short-term disability claim and was denied b/c the doctor put that I was partially disabled.I had a metacarpal splint given the instructions that l could not use my right hand which l am a nurse and right-handed s I need the use of my hand so I was unable to work.

When I was sold the policy I was under the assumption that the policy that I was purchasing was going to cover if l could not work and that claims form is very misleading.

This insurance is very expensive to be paying and when you need them the most they deny your claims. So sad ……..I will be looking into some disability insurance like going back to Aflac b\c I never had a problem getting paid and the only reason l switched b was b\ c I thought I was getting a better policy boy was l was wrong.

    Do not get this insurance.”

  10. April Sellers says:

I took out a supplemental heart insurance policy on my husband and yesterday was contacted and told that it was dropped. He had a heart attack just a few months after we took out the policy. But I have had a cancer policy with them for several years. The key verbs in that sentence are HAVE HAD. I will be discontinuing all of my policies with NTA because of poor customer service. I would not recommend their insurance.
