I currently have an individual Aflac disability policy. I decided to cancel my policy and went to their website to do so. There is absolutely no information on the site as to how to cancel your policy!! It reminds me of the infamous Roach Motel--you can get in but there is no way out. Furthermore, many, many people have posted similar questions/complaints on the internet. Aflac certainly cannot be considered an ethical, reputable company.

If you are an Aflac policy holder and you signed up for and pay to have additional family members on your policy, this is for you. ( A bit lengthy.sorry... )
We have paid for the last 5 years to have an Aflac policy with both a 'Sickness" rider and an "Off the job" rider.
Aflac traditionally only covers for "Accidents" unless you pay extra to have the "Sickness" rider which entitles you to the same coverage for "Accidents" but covers you if you get ill.Pretty simple.
Aflac also traditionally only writes "Individual" policies unless you pay additional for other family members such as that of a "Spouse" to be covered under your policy.
I'm covered for on the job or off the job accidents or if I get sick and can't work.My wife is also covered under the policy as we pay additional to have her included under my policy.
When I signed with Aflac, it was at work and 11 of us where in the meeting with the Aflac rep.
We were all told that paying additional for our spouses would entitle them to the same coverage offered to us under the policy.
It sounded good and it sounded correct so 8 of us signed up.
A couple have filed individual claims over the last 5 years and had no problems.
Recently my wife got sick and spent 9 days in the hospital.
We filed a claim with Aflac and were denied with the reason being "Your wife is not covered under the rider for sickness.Had she been hurt in an accident she would have been covered."
I made a huge mistake for taking the word of the Aflac rep and not reading the in depth policy in its entirety.
That was clearly my bad.
So I sat down and read the policy in its entirety.
Now, I'm not bragging but I read and write on a collage level and my understanding and comprehension of the English language is extensive.
IMO, the policy is written in such a way that even a good attorney might have trouble deciphering and comprehending the policy as its written.
One thing that was clear was a statement in the "Sickness" rider that says "This rider applies to the Insured only, as shown in the Policy Schedule."
If you look at the policy schedule, it clearly states "Covered: Insured(me)/Spouse".
To me, this is clearly deceptive as the only part Aflac cares about is the literal part of "Insured only" and forgets about the "Spouse" that is clearly shown under "Covered".
So they denied the claim.
Now here's something.... Aflac states that "had she been in an accident she would have been covered but if you look at the "off the job" rider, you find the same statement "This rider applies to the Insured only, as shown in the Policy Schedule." They would have denied her if we filed had she been in an accident.
Had she been hurt at work... its Workers Comp.
So what exactly was the extra money buying from aflac for 5 years we paid to have my wife covered ??
This is clearly a scam from the time the Aflac rep walked in the door.
Mistake one was allowing myself to be sales talked by the Aflac rep when he told us all that "our wives would be covered just as we were."
My next mistake was paying out cash before seeing the policy and having a chance to review it before buying.
The next mistake was my not reading the policy in full when I did get it.
My last mistake would be if I failed to come and advise you about our experience with Aflac and advise you to review your own policy in depth.
After reviewing their own policies and seeing my point...4 of my co workers have canceled their own
policies too.
It's a scam if you sign up for anything more than "Individual coverage".

Good luck,
