Aflac Health Insurance Company Review

When people thing about Aflac they do not generally think of a health insurance company, they think of a company that supplements health insurance with coverage should you get inured and cannot work. However, Aflac Health Insurance Company is much more than a supplemental insurance company. They are a company that has been in business for over 50 years and they continue to thrive and flourish, even in these slow economic times. Use this Aflac health insurance review and the free health insurance quote finder on this page to get the information you need and decide if this health insurance provider is the best one for your needs.

Aflac Supplemental Health Insurance Coverage

Although Aflac does not provide health insurance in the traditional sense, they go much further than simple accident insurance. They provide supplemental insurance for hospital coverage, cancer treatments, dental and vision insurance, long-term health care, short-term health care, intensive care insurance, and much more. Aflac also provides life insurance from term to whole life and they also have special policies for children.

If you are considering purchasing supplemental insurance, but you are not really sure if you need it, speak to an independent representative to determine if you need supplemental and what kind of supplemental insurance you should carry. Making this kind of decision can be overwhelming, especially if you are not familiar with all of the available coverage and you may need an expert to help you sort out where your regular health insurance starts and stops and how Aflac can help you.

Aflac Benefits

Although Aflac is not the only supplemental health insurance company available, they are the company with the most policyholders in the United States and Japan with over 40 million policyholders. One of the reasons that they are so popular is that they have a guaranteed renewal policy. As long as you continue to pay your premiums you can renew your policy year after year, no matter how much you have used it in the past. This is especially beneficial for those people who have chronic pain or suffer from cancer or other debilitating illness.

Having additional coverage above and beyond traditional insurance can ensure that necessary treatments continue, even after the lifetime maximum of your primary health insurance company has been reached.

Another benefit that Aflac offers is payroll deduction. Many people find that it is easier to pay directly from their paychecks month to month than it is to write a check for their premiums. Aflac also offers a flexible spending plan that makes it possible to set money aside in an account of sorts for future needs such as transportation and day care. However, if this money is not used during the year it is not reimbursed to the carrier so it is best to use caution and planning with this kind of account.

Aflac Insurance Rates Online

Comparing Aflac’s insurance rates online to other insurance carriers is easy when you use our free quote tool at the top of the page. Before you commit to any health insurance or supplemental insurance, you should compare rates from multiple companies to ensure that you have the best deal. Until you look, you cannot be sure that it will not be cheaper to purchase additional long-term care coverage (for example) from a traditional health insurance company rather than purchasing supplemental insurance. Saving money is important in every other aspect of your life, and your health insurance, life insurance, and supplemental insurance should not be any different.

The Value of Supplemental Health Insurance

The expense of medical care increases on a regular basis and you need to ensure that you carry the appropriate coverage in order to prevent a financial disaster for you and your family. Traditional health care is the first step to ensuring that you have the necessary coverage to pay any medical bills that should occur. However, in many cases your regular health care may not be enough. Depending on your health care coverage, you may find yourself in a situation where your health care does not coverage certain conditions or long-term care. Purchasing supplemental insurance provides you with additional insurance and protection against the worst possibilities.

Understanding what your health insurance does and does not cover is the first step to finding complete health care protection. HMOs, PPOs and Indemnity plans all have their flaws and it is up to you to ensure that you know what those flaws are so that you have every contingency covered. You cannot go back to your insurer and defend yourself with and ‘I didn’t know’ defense. If you do not have coverage for something, they simply are not going to pay it. Talk to one of our agents, get answers to your questions, and find out where your lapses might be.

“If you are an Aflac policy holder and you signed up for and pay to have additional family members on your policy, this is for you. ( A bit lengthy. sorry… )

We have paid for the last 5 years to have an Aflac policy with both a ‘Sickness”” rider and an “”Off the job”” rider. Aflac traditionally only covers for “”Accidents”” unless you pay extra to have the “”Sickness”” rider which entitles you to the same coverage for “”Accidents”” but covers you if you get ill. Pretty simple.

Aflac also traditionally only writes “”Individual”” policies unless you pay additional for other family members such as that of a “”Spouse”” to be covered under your policy.

I’m covered for on the job or off the job accidents or if I get sick and can’t work.My wife is also covered under the policy as we pay additional to have her included under my policy.

When I signed with Aflac, it was at work and 11 of us were in the meeting with the Aflac rep. We were all told that paying additional for our spouses would entitle them to the same coverage offered to us under the policy. It sounded good and it sounded correct so 8 of us signed up.
A couple have filed individual claims over the last 5 years and had no problems.

Recently my wife got sick and spent 9 days in the hospital. We filed a claim with Aflac and were denied with the reason being “”Your wife is not covered under the rider for sickness.Had she been hurt in an accident she would have been covered.”” I made a huge mistake for taking the word of the Aflac rep and not reading the in-depth policy in its entirety. That was clearly my bad. So, I sat down and read the policy in its entirety.

Now, I’m not bragging but I read and write on a college level and my understanding and comprehension of the English language is extensive.
IMO, the policy is written in such a way that even a good attorney might have trouble deciphering and comprehending the policy as it’s written.
One thing that was clear was a statement in the “”Sickness”” rider that says “”This rider applies to the Insured only, as shown in the Policy Schedule.””

If you look at the policy schedule, it clearly states “”Covered: Insured(me)/Spouse””. To me, this is clearly deceptive as the only part Aflac cares about is the literal part of “”Insured only”” and forgets about the “”Spouse”” that is clearly shown under “”Covered””.
    So they denied the claim.

Now here’s something…. Aflac states that “”had she been in an accident she would have been covered but if you look at the “”off the job”” rider, you find the same statement “”This rider applies to the Insured only, as shown in the Policy Schedule.”” They would have denied her if we filed had she been in an accident. Had she been hurt at work… its Workers Comp.

So, what exactly was the extra money buying from aflac for 5 years we paid to have my wife covered ?? This is clearly a scam from the time the Aflac rep walked in the door.

Mistake one was allowing myself to be sales talked by the Aflac rep when he told us all that “”our wives would be covered just as we were.””
My next mistake was paying out cash before seeing the policy and having a chance to review it before buying.

The next mistake was my not reading the policy in full when I did get it. My last mistake would be if I failed to come and advise you about our experience with Aflac and advise you to review your own policy in depth.

After reviewing their own policies and seeing my point…4 of my co-workers have canceled their own
    policies too.

It’s a scam if you sign up for anything more than “”Individual coverage””.

    Good luck,
    Sp0iler”

“I currently have an individual Aflac disability policy. I decided to cancel my policy and went to their website to do so. There is absolutely no information on the site as to how to cancel your policy!! It reminds me of the infamous Roach Motel–you can get in but there is no way out.

Furthermore, many, many people have posted similar questions/complaints on the internet. Aflac certainly cannot be considered an ethical, reputable company.”

Within 3 days I was issued a check!!No questions asked!! I never talked to anyone besides checking my message center on the Aflac website. I even received a message reminding me to send a bill for my follow-up treatment.WOW!! I am amazed!!

I will be telling my friends and family about Aflac,it’s affordable, hassle free and I love it. THANKS AFLAC”

  5. Allison says:

“I’ve had AFLAC short term disability insurance for 10 years. Had emergency surgery and spent 10 days in the hospital. I have had my claim denied several times now.

First, they said it was because I was a part-time employee. Well, they sold it to me as a part-time employee. I argued, they said I was right and would review the claim. Then they denied it again because I was part time.

I have now demanded that they return all those premiums they fraudulently collected over 10 years and well, they’re reviewing that. Worst company ever. Horrible customer service. Made a complaint to the Oregon Dept of Consumer Business Services and AFLAC thinks it’s funny.

Don’t buy anything with the word AFLAC on it.”

“I purchased the Aflac accident plan for myself and all my college kids. I thought they would for sure use it before me. We have good medical coverage, and I was a passenger in a friend’s sedan where we were rear ended at slow speed. No big deal. I went home and complained about a sore neck. My wife asked me to see her friend, a local chiropractor.

I was examined and treated five or six times, filed my documents with Aflac, and received a decent check about a week later. No questions asked – love Aflac. It’s very inexpensive and I found that it pays a wellness benefit to me every year when I have a check up. Money matters.

    Thanks Aflac,
    Mark”

  7. John says:

“The reason Aflac has 3 billion in assets is from slowly stealing your money and hiding the fine print and paying people trained to know this fine print inside and out so when you have thousands vested and the time comes that you need them your claim will be denied.

They pay money out to a selected few to spread the good word of receiving payment so everyone else keeps dumping weekly payments into the money pit of no return. If you disagree, try them out and in a few years, you’ll be writing this same letter. Good Luck .”

“Thanks for your reviews. An Aflac rep. came to my place of employment to sign people up for their plans. It wasn’t very expensive and I was interested in their dental plan.

When in Wales why the reimbursement rate varied soo much she didn’t really give me a straight answer. I thought that was a bit suspicious and the record here confirm that.”

I had a hysterectomy on 12/8/17. And sent in my claims. Aflac denined my claim stating this was a pre-existing condition. Which it was not. My doctor sent in all the doctors notes and other paperwork showing it was not a pre-existing condition and they have contuined to denine my claim. I have appealed this and spoken to a supervisor. I don’t understand why they won’t pay me out the money I am owed. I feel like no one is even looking at my paperwork. It’s one excuse after another. Aflac appears to be a very shady company. I am off work for 6 weeks and I’m already stressed. But to deal with there horrible customer service and the auditor who never calls me or my doctor office back is even more stressful. Is there anyone that can help me?
